Title: Regarding encroachment on Railway land in Mumbai.

SHRI GAJANAN KIRTIKAR (MUMBAI NORTH WEST): Madam Speaker, I thank you for giving me an opportunity to raise a matter regarding encroachment on Railway land in Mumbai.  Some slums have come up on the Railways land 50 years ago. The Government of Maharashtra has a specific programme for rehabilitation of such old slum-dwellers, but there is no such policy on the part of the Railways.  Moreover, the Railways are not coming forward to issue NoC for such redevelopment.  At least, in Maharashtra State, particularly for Mumbai city, a special proposal to issue NoC may be taken up immediately by the Railway Board.  The vacant land can be utilised for creating infrastructure facilities.  Alternatively, a joint venture with the Government of Maharashtra for rehabilitation of eligible slum-dwellers and development of such land may be approved by the Railway Board.  That is my request to the Government.

HON. SPEAKER:

Shri Bhairon Prasad Mishra,

Kunwar Pushpendra Singh Chandel,

Shri Arvind Sawant,

Vinayak Bhaurao Raut,

Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde,

Shri Rahul Shewale and

Shri Hemant Tukaram Godse are permitted to associate with the issue raised by Shri Gajanan Kirtikar.
