FUNCTIONING OF NATGRID

HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-




(a) whether the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) has become functional;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether there is a proposal to set up centres of NATGRID in different parts of the country; and

(d) if so, the details of the places identified for the said purpose?

(a) to (d): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (d) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 131 FOR 21-08-2012

(a) & (b): No, Madam. NATGRID was set up as an attached Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs with effect from 1.12.2010. Further, Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has “in-principle” approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of NATGRID on 06.06.2011. Planning Commission has also accorded its ‘In Principle’ approval to the project on 8th July, 2011, as a ‘Central Plan Scheme’ under MHA from 2011-12. CCS approved the DPR on 14-6-2012 for an amount of Rs. 1002.97 crores for implementation of Foundation, Horizon-I and some elements of Horizon-II of the NATGRID Project. Work on the foundation and the first horizon of NATGRID is in progress.

(c) to (d): No, Madam. NATGRID is headquartered at New Delhi and no branch / operational centre outside Delhi is envisaged. However, the Disaster Recovery Centre of NATGRID is proposed to be located outside Delhi.
