(a) whether various crimes against the
transgender community are on the rise
in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the total
number of such cases reported, accused
arrested, convicted, along with the action
taken against the guilty during each of the
last three years and the current year, crime
and State-wise; and
(c) the corrective steps taken by the Government
to check such cases and provide security to
transgenders in the country?

(a) to (c): As per information provided by the
National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), no
separate data on transgenders are being
collected at present.
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
constituted an Expert Committee to make an
in-depth study of the problems being faced by
the Transgender Community and suggest suitable
measures to ameliorate their problems. The
Committee has submitted its report on 27th
January 2014.
There are no specific steps taken by the
Ministry of Home Affairs for providing security
to transgenders. However, as citizens of this
country they enjoy constitutional rights, as
extended to the citizen of India.
