Loss to Horticultural Cultivators due to Lockdown

AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE be pleased to state:-


(a) whether fruit and flower farmers lost their crops due to the lockdown;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government has provided these farmers any economic assistance; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, a Centrally Sponsored scheme is being implemented for holistic development of horticulture in the country through State Horticulture Missions (SHM). No report has been received from the States regarding loss of fruit and flower crop due to lockdown. As per information received, Govt. of Goa, Govt. of Karnataka and Govt. of Punjab have conducted a survey on the loss of floriculture in their States. Govt. of Goa has reported a loss of Rs. 45.65 Lakhs in an area of 5.6 ha, Govt. of Punjab has reported a loss of Rs. 420 Lakhs and Govt. of Karnataka has reported a incurring loss of 11,685 hectares of area under flower crops.

(c) & (d): No economic assistance has been provided by Govt. of India. However, Govt. of Karnataka has provided an amount of Rs. 31.8375 crores under the special programme ‘Compensation to the flower growing farmers’.
