Will the Minister of

Education be pleased to state:-

(a) the details of number of students who appeared for the JEE, NEET exam from different States including Telangana and the number of exam centers that were allotted for them;

(b) whether it is a fact that in spite of increase in the number of exam centers there was still a shortage of exam centers and other facilities which were necessary for the students safety due to COVID-19 in the country and many students were allotted centers in neighbouring States;

(c) if so, whether the Government has any proposal to increase the number of exam centers in the ensuing year to reduce the hardships of students; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?



(a) to (d) : The National Testing Agency (NTA) has reported that as against 8.42 lakh registered students 6.35 lakh (75.5%) appeared in Paper-I of JEE (Main) from 2nd to 6th September 2020 for admission to B.E & B. Tech courses, whereas as against 1.12 lakh registered students, 0.61 lakhs (54.7 %) students appeared in Paper-II of JEE (Main) on 1st September, 2020 for admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses. The State/UT/ other Country wise figure of the students registered and appeared in Paper-I & Paper-II of JEE (Main) conducted from 1st to 6th September 2020 is at Annexure.
The number of students registered for NEET (UG) 2020 was 15.97 lakhs. The total number of students appeared in NEET (UG) 2020 (which is a pen & paper test) conducted on 13th September, 2020 from different states including Telangana, would be known after the scanning of individual answer sheets and attendance sheets and computation of the same for arriving at the attendance figure of the students of this exam.
The number of exam centers was increased for JEE (Main) 2020 from 570 to 660 per shift and for NEET (UG) 2020 from 2546 to 3862 in view of the social distancing measures required to be taken on account of COVID-19. In the State of Telangana 27 centers for JEE(Main) and 115 centers for NEET(UG) were provided.
99.07% students of JEE (Main) Examination 2020 and 99.87% students of NEET (UG) 2020 had got exam centre in the city of their first choice. The rest of the students were accommodated in the cities of their second choice or in the nearby cities. Moreover, correction facilities were provided to change their particulars, including choice of exam center, five times each for JEE (Main) and NEET (UG).
Adequate arrangements were made for necessary safety measures at the examination centers of both JEE (Main) & NEET (UG) held in September 2020.
The number of exam centers for next year would be decided as per the requirements and logistical feasibility.
