NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the use of solar energy has increased in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and
(c) if not, the steps taken/being taken by the Government to promote it during the last three years and the current year?

STATEMENT

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 440 (20TH POSITION) FOR 25.03.2021 REGARDING USE OF SOLAR ENERGY

(a)&(b): Yes, Sir. The installed capacity of solar power has reached 39083.67 MW at the end of February, 2021, which is about 15 times of the capacity of 2632 MW at the end of 2013-14. The State-wise details of the grid connected solar power capacity installed in the country, as on 28.02.2021, are given at Annexure.

(c)The Government has undertaken several measures to promote the use of solar energy in the Country. These include:

• permitting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) up to 100 percent,
• waiver of Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) charges and losses for inter-state sale of solar and wind power for projects to be commissioned by 30th June 2023,
• declaration of trajectory for Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) up to the year 2022,
• setting up of Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks to provide land and transmission to RE developers on a plug and play basis,
• schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), Solar Rooftop Phase II, 12000 MW CPSU Scheme Phase II, etc,
• laying of new transmission lines and creating new sub-station capacity under the Green Energy Corridor Scheme for evacuation of renewable power,
• notification of standards for deployment of solar photovoltaic system/devices,
• setting up of Project Development Cell for attracting and facilitating investments,
• Standard Bidding Guidelines for tariff based competitive bidding process for procurement of Power from Grid Connected Solar PV and Wind Projects.
• Government has issued orders that power shall be dispatched against Letter of Credit (LC) or advance payment to ensure timely payment by distribution licensees to RE generators.
• priority sector lending status for loans up to a limit of Rs 30 crore.
