Damage due to Heavy Rains

AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE be pleased to state:-


(a) the value of agricultural and horticultural crops damaged due to heavy rains in West Bengal during the last year;
(b) whether the Government has conducted any survey in this regard and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government proposes to provide assistance to farmers under National Disaster Relief Fund to cover the said losses, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether the Government has received any request in this regard and if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;
(e) the steps taken by the Government to cover the loss of life, property and livestock along with the details thereof; and
(f) whether the Government has released any funds in this regard, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (f) OF STARRED QUESTION NO. 133 DUE FOR REPLY ON 7TH DECEMBER, 2021.

(a) to (f): The State Governments undertake relief measures in the wake of natural disasters from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) already placed at their disposal in accordance with Government of India approved items and norms. Additional assistance is extended from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) as per established procedure. The assistance approved under SDRF/NDRF norms is provided in the form of relief.

5.71 lakh hectare of agriculture/horticulture cropped area was reported to have been affected in West Bengal due to cyclonic storm “Amphan” during 2020. An amount of Rs.2250.28 crore under NDRF and Rs.1011.00 crore (central share) under SDRF was released to the State during 2020-21.
