Thermal Power Projects

Will the Minister of



POWER be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the Government proposes to achieve the goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity in the country by 2030;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the necessary action taken in this regard;

(c) the number of thermal power projects proposed to be set up in different parts of the country during the current financial year, State/UT wise;

(d) whether the Government has issued revised guidelines to thermal generation companies to set up renewable energy generation capacity either by themselves or through developers by open bids and supplying it to the consumers under the existing PPAs; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?


ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF POWER AND NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY

(a) & (b) : In line with the announcement made by India at the recently concluded 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) at Glasgow, Government is committed to achieving 500 Giga Watt (GW) of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by the year 2030.
(c) : In the current financial year 2021-22, four Thermal Power Projects (TPPs) having a capacity of 2370 Megawatt (MW) have been commissioned. In addition, nine TPPs, having a capacity of 4995 MW, are targeted to be commissioned during the Financial Year 2021-22.
(d) & (e) : Ministry of Power (MoP) has issued a Scheme on 15.11.2021 for flexibility in Generation and Scheduling of Thermal/Hydro Power Stations through bundling with Renewable Energy (RE) and Storage Power. Flexibility has been given to Power Generators to optimally utilize generation from RE sources and also help in reducing emissions while facilitating further RE capacity addition.
