Life Expectancy of Indian Population

HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the life expectancy of Indian population has increased as per World Health Organisation (WHO) data released recently;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether WHO lauded the steps taken by India to improve the health indicators of its people;
(d) if so, the details of these health indicators; and
(e) the States that improved their positions in health indicators as per WHO data?

(a) to (e): As per the recent report namely World Health Statistics 2022, published by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Life Expectancy at Birth of Indian population for the year 2019 is 70.8 years, which has increased by 2.0 years as compared to Life Expectancy at Birth for the year 2016. Further, as per the latest report titled Sample Registration System (SRS) based Abridged Life Table 2015-19 published by the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, Government of India, the average life expectancy at birth for India has increased from 49.7 during 1970-75 to 69.7 during the year 2015-19 registering an increase of 20 years during this period.
Latest Reports of the Government of India have shown that several States have made significant progress in many health indicators. The State-wise Life Expectancy at Birth for the years 2014-18 & 2015-19 as published by the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, Government of India is given at Annexure.
