Diseases in Ladakh

HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:-


(a) the details of most prevalent diseases in Ladakh region and primary causes thereof;
(b) whether such diseases have been categorised Age, Gender and Region-wise in Ladakh;
(c) if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether any preventive measures have been taken by the Government to provide Medical Health Insurance facilities for the people in Ladakh region; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e): As reported by the Ladakh Administration, the common non-communicable diseases include hypertension, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary diseases (COPD), diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, high altitude sickness etc.

Age, gender and region wise details are not maintained by Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri – Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) provides an annual health cover of Rs. 5 Lakhs per eligible beneficiary family for secondary and tertiary care hospitalizations corresponding to 1,949 treatment procedures across 27 specialties. A total of 1.18 lakh individuals from 30,042 families have been provided with Ayushman cards and they can avail cashless and paperless treatment for the identified procedures in any of the empanelled hospitals.
