SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:-




(a) the norms/guidelines laid down for construction/maintenance of old age homes in the country;

(b) the number of old age homes opened in the country including Maharashtra during the last three years, State-wise;

(c) the details and the number of people residing in each of these homes, location-wise;

(d) the amount of funds released to the implementing agencies for setting up these homes during the said period;

(e) whether any new proposals for opening such homes are pending with the Government; and

(f) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon?

(a) to (f) A statement is laid on the Table of the House.

Statement referred to parts (a) to (f) in reply to Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 157 for answer on 26.2.2009 regarding Old Age Homes by Shri Ramdas Athawale and Shri Tukaram Ganpatrao Renge.

(a) Grant-in-aid for the maintenance of old age homes run by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) is given under the Integrated Programme for Older Persons (IPOP). Under this Scheme, financial assistance is provided upto 90% of the admissible recurring cost to suitable NGOs.

In the 11th Plan, there is a provision of Rs.60 crore for giving assistance for construction of old age homes for indigent Senior Citizens. Details of the scheme are being finalized.

(b) to (d). State-wise details of old age homes for which assistance was provided under the Scheme of Integrated Programme for Older Persons for the first time , during last three years (2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 ), is given at Annexure-I.

(e) & (f) New proposals under the Scheme of Integrated Programme for Older Persons, are considered on the recommendations of the State Governments. State-wise details of proposals of old age homes recommended during 2008-09 by State Governments as per the IPOP scheme (as revised w.e.f 1.4.2008), which are pending, are at Annexure-II.
