BRAHMA, SHRI RUP NATH, B.A., B.L., Cong., [Assam-Kokrajhar (Reserved-Sch. Tribes)-1967]:  s. of late Shri Dhajendra Nath Brahma; b. at Vill, Banshbari, near Kokrajhar Town, March, 1902; ed. at Cotton College, Gauhati and Calcutta University Law College; m. late Smt. Damayanti Brahma, 1920 and Smt. Swarnamoyee Brahma, 1958; 4 s. and 6 d;. Cultivator; was Member of the Minority Sub-Committee and the Tribal Sub-Committee of the Constituent Assembly; Member, Assam Legislative Assembly, 19371967; Minister, Government of Assam, 1938 to 1967.

Social activities:  Worked for the social and economic uplift of the plains Tribal people since student days; associated with many social and cultural institutions such as Ram Krishna Mission, Buddhist Association; Hindu Mission and Sankardev Cultural Association, etc.

Favourite pastime and recreation:  Fishing and swimming.

Special interests:  Forests; development of the backward tribal people.

Publications:  Contributed articles in local papers,  Re-elected in a bye-election caused by his own seat having been declared vacant.
